Wonder Dave the Poet
Dave has been the co-slam master of the SlamMN! poetry slam held at Kieran’s Irish pub in Minneapolis. Dave represented Minneapolis at the National Poetry Slam in 2007 & 2008. He was also the Minneapolis Individual World Poetry Slam representative in 2008. Dave has performed his poetry throughout the US at slams and as a featured poet. In 2008 he was selected as poet laughette of the Monday Night Comedy Show. Dave also teaches spoken word performance using improvisational acting techniques.
Wonder Dave the Performer
Dave is a fixture of the Twin Cities performance scene. Dave is a regular cast member of the Stilettos & Straps Burlesque Troupe. Wonder Dave has performed in a variety of cabarets, sketch comedy, fringe festival and improv shows. He also traveled the US and Europe in 2002 as the emcee for Glam Rockers All the Pretty Horses. In 2005-2006 Dave was cast in the Minneapolis productions of the“The Awesome 80’s Prom” & “Love Tapes” at Hennepin Stages. On the other end of the spectrum Wonder Dave has frequently worked in the realm of children’s entertainment.

I have been organizing poetry Slams, open mic nights and various stage shows at Kieran’s Pub and other Twin Cities locations since 2006. Duties have included record keeping, creating special events, organizing fundraisers and booking featured performers and coaching the Minneapolis’ National Poetry Slam team.
2007, 2008, Minneapolis Poetry Slam Team Member
I was one of four people to represent the city of Minneapolis at the National Poetry Slams in Austin TX and Madison WI. In 2007 I earned the special honor of being named the number 3 erotic poet in the country.

In 2008 I was the top ranked slam poet in the city of Minneapolis and was sent to the Individual World Poetry Slam in Charlotte NC

November 2007 & 2008, Special guest at the North Star Story telling League’s annual Tellabration Festival
The North Star’s Tellabration festival is part of a nationwide series the event in the Twin Cities is one of the largest in the country. I was a guest speaker as part of both the improvisational telling group and the “Tales from the Edge” Series.
May 2007, June 2008 & April 2010, Rust Belt Regional Poetry Slam, Columbus OH & East Lansing MI
The Rust Belt Slam is a gathering of poets from throughout the Midwest. In 2007 I was one of the event’s hosts. I returned the following year as a competitor and placed fourth overall. In 2010 I was part of the Minnesota team that placed 2nd overall in the Rustbelt tournament.
October 2008, Great Plains Poetry Pile-up at Midland Lutheran College Nebraska
The Pile-up gathers individual poets from across the country and has them face off over the course of three days. In 2008 I was a finalist ranking seventh. In 2009 I led a performance workshop for the event entitled “Stop flailing awkwardly”.
February 2010, Capturing Fire Poetry Slam, Washington DC
Capturing Fire is a Slam for members of the GLBT community. I placed 4th overall at this tournament.
August 2004 & 2006, MN Fringe Festival
In 2004 I was a featured performer as part of the spoken word fringe. In 2006 I was a special guest in Curt Lund and Laura Bidgood’s “Two Queers and Chubby” a show that examined the relationships of straight women and gay men.

The Monday Night Comedy Show is a cabaret featuring stand-up, short film, improv and since March of 2009 spoken word. After my initial performance the organizers asked if I would like to be a regular part of the show for in which I now routinely perform and book acts for.
February 2009, Midwest Poetry Tour
I traveled across the Midwest featuring at poetry slams, open mics, college classes, burlesque shows and cabarets. Over the course of the tour I featured in Chicago, Rockford IL, Indianapolis, Columbus, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Madison and LaCrosse WI.
I have been featured on Wisconsin Public Radio and Minneapolis KFAI’s “Write on Radio” and “Tehuti Spoken Word”. I have been the emcee & featured poet at numerous rock concerts, cabarets and variety shows. I was the official poet of the Stilettos and Straps burlesque troupe. I was a special guest performer with the MN collective the Rock Star Storytellers. St. Paul Poet Laureate Carol Connolly has selected me to be a featured reader at her monthly series 4 times.
June 2005-August 2006, Awesome 80’s Prom Cast member (Dickie Harrington)
This show was an interactive comedy. I played the role of the Boy George-esque send up of Duckie from “Pretty In Pink” Dickie Harrington. During the show I used improv, mingled with the audience, sang and performed choreographed dance routines.
September-November 2006, Love Tapes at Hennepin Stages Theatre (Roadie)
I played the role of Rocco the Roadie, and doubled as a stage hand helping out with onstage video and set changes, in the Midwest debut of this Rock N’ Roll Love story.
March 2006, Verbatim Verboten
Over the course of this “Invasion of Privacy Review” (the material for this show was transcripts of things said by politicians & other famous personalities) I played roles ranging from Richard Nixon to Paris Hilton and Dean Martin. I was also the host of the show.
April 2006 & April- May 2009, National Theatre for Children
I toured with NTC throughout Maine, Wisconsin and Michigan teaching children about water & energy conservation. I portrayed a super hero, an alien, a wacky British guy and a mysterious customer in these two-person shows.
2001 season-2005 season, The King’s Stocks at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, Stocks-man and Manager
This show was an insult based comedy and involved a lot of audience participation. I worked both on-stage and in the crowd. I also handled scheduling and finances for this show for two years.
2002, 2005 Halloween Season & October 2006- November 2008, Camp Snoopy/ Nickelodeon Universe
2002- Performed improv and told stories for children and their families. There was a lot of audience involvement and much merry making.
2005- “Peanuts gang Country western Jamboree” at Camp Snoopy I emceed this show, danced with the Peanuts characters and did the character meet and greets after the show.
2006- Current, In 2006 I signed on officially as an entertainment staff member with the Mall of America. In that time I have portrayed, Pirates, Paul Revere, a French Chef and Prince (Not-So) Charming among other things. I have also taught Improv workshops, been trained as a stilt walker, worked as a costume character (Shrek, Larry the Cucumber, Sharky & Ace the Moose), done promotional off-site events & hosted a kid’s cooking competition.
2002-2003, Mr. Shrimp Improv & Sketch Comedy Troup
We performed various forms of improv to the guffaws of many an audience Member. In 2003 we put on a full length sketch performance entitled “Super-Size This! Life is an Uber Target and then you die.” I played various roles in and wrote for this sketch comedy review.
February 2001-February 2003, Skin Dog Productions
I emceed and performed with glam rock band All the Pretty Horses during my time spent touring with the band I was fortunate enough to travel throughout the US as well as go to England and Amsterdam. I also hosted charity events and acted as sales manager during my time with the company.
Summer 2000, Ace of SpAIDS theatre troupe part of the ARCW in La Crosse WI
I both acted and wrote comedic and dramatic sketches dealing with AIDS, STD education and cultural awareness. We performed at conferences for youth and educators.
