June 28th Geek Slam and Trivia Contest
The annual legendary Geek Slam and Trivia Contest is coming! This year we are honored by having Joking Envolope's very own funny man, king of the geeks, lord of the nerds, JOSEPH SCRIMSHAW as our host!
Performers: Bring you geekiest/nerdiest/dorkiest pieces you have in the name of poetry. It'll be two rounds, three minute time limits, props and costumes are allowed!
Audience Geeks: Bring your pencils and get ready to compete for geeky glory with your team. This is the ultimate trivia contest $10/team buy in if you want to compete for cash prizes! Teams can be 1-6 people.
A night of special guests, special pieces, and special times, not to be missed.
July 11th (Yes, a Monday!) Legends Slam and Silent Auction
SlamMN! is bringing back some of the voices of slam teams past for a very special fundraiser night. Watch a spectacular evening of poetry as the 2011 National Team (Neil Hilborn, Dylan Garity, Michael Lee, and Hieu Minh Nguyen) team up with some of the legends of SlamMN! (Final line-up will be released soon, but put it on your calendar now!).
This night isn't about competition, but a celebration of all the things SlamMN! has accomplished through the years. There will also be items to bid on, drinks to be had, and all the proceeds will go towards helping SlamMN! send the team to Nationals in Boston.
This is a special Monday edition of SlamMN! so don't show up a day late!

5 judges. Pshhhttt...that's so 2010. Come to this slam where audience votes will be tallied automatically by text message, so you can all be the judges!!!
The 2011 National team will go against however many poets challenge them as Team: Rest of the World, back and forth, and only one team will triumph. How deep to the 2011 National Team pockets run? Only one way to find out! Show Up!

Word Ninja Open Mics

Word Ninjas is the Rockstar Storytellers monthly open mic night, taking place the second Tuesday of every month at Kieran’s Irish Pub in downtown Minneapolis. Sign-up begins at 8pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm. Suggested $3 donation at the door.
In true open mic fashion, everyone who signs up gets 5 minutes to do… whatever they want! Unjuried, uncensored (within reason, people) and unpredictable. Stand-up, slam poetry, storytelling, traditional poetry, folk tales, monologue, literary readings — if words are your weapon, we want you on our stage.
Each show is hosted by one of our very own Rockstar Storytellers, and another Rockstar typically does a feature set somewhere in the line-up. Word Ninjas also features special touring guests and the occasional surprise local celebrity! (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.)

Story SlamMN! is wrapping up it's first season in style! The top 3 storytellers from all of the regular season slams are coming together to duke it out for the title of Minneapolis SlamMN! first Grand Slam Champion!
The storytellers will have 9 minutes to wow the audience and judges with their stories on the theme Playing Hooky: stories of running free. At the end of the night the Champion will take home $175 dollars, a trophy, a medal, and eternal glory. 2nd and 3rd places will get some cool stuff too.
